My Inner Landscape
Painting Emotional States and Discovering Inner Clarity
Implemented in Spain by AFENES, in collaboration with AIIJ. My Inner Landscape invited participants to translate emotions into visual “landscapes” using painting as a reflective medium. Rather than focusing on artistic skill, the session emphasised emotional awareness, presence, and personal meaning.
Participants used colour, form, and space to represent inner emotional states. Many were surprised by how accurately their paintings reflected feelings they had struggled to articulate.
“I was surprised by how much the landscape I painted looked like my actual feelings.”
Group reflection at the end of the session strengthened emotional transparency and cohesion. Participants shared their landscapes with honesty and openness, supported by a strong sense of psychological safety.
Measured outcomes showed a clear reduction in stress levels, reinforcing the role of creative expression as an effective tool for emotional regulation and well-being. The session demonstrated how painting can become a gentle yet powerful channel for emotional insight, calm, and connection.
